Couple of quick private plate retention questions

Morning all,

I'm putting my private plate on retention as I'm selling the car. I just had a couple of questions:

1. How long, on average, does it take to receive the documents back / confirmation that I can put the old plate back on? DVLA reckon up to 2 weeks - I'm just wondering if it's more or less than this on average.

2. DVLA don't specify a preferred method of posting the documents to them - I'll be using RM Special Delivery, unless someone thinks I should do otherwise?

Mine took a week for the retention certificate to come through and a further week for the new V5 etc.

This was about three weeks ago.

I did this few weeks ago. I sent the documentation RM First Class Recorded.

I received the V5 and certificate within a week (within a day of each other). I was very impressed with the turnaround.
