I know there's been loads of threads about this in the past but I'm not sure any have got to the root cause, the question is why? It's a bizarre habit, any ideas?

I came back to this today, I left it in The ASDA car park whilst I got a pizza, waitrose / selfridges etc just can't compete on the pizza front like The ASDA.

The definitive answer is just that some people are dicks - which is a big shame - and I appreciate this doesn't help much frown
It's a quick, cheap and cowardly way to screw someone over and sadly, it does work

We have an old nutty bd in our close who has a couple of visitor parking spaces in front of his house. There is nowhere else to park except on the driveways of the houses which do get a bit packed. To my knowledge, he has damaged at least 5 cars while parked there, one of ours and one visitors plus other neighbours. He uses a Stanley knife just to make sure it won't polish out...

I confronted the tt when my wife's brand new Pug 206 GTI got done some years ago whilst parked there, and told him I would be setting up CCTV. No problems since.

Then, my next door neighbours kid's boyfriend parked his MX5 there while they jetted off somewhere hot for the weekend. They came back to a slashed roof in three places, knife scratches down the side and across the boot lid. All captured on CCTV, took a while to find the act and was so pleased to tell the old scumbag and his "legal secretary" wife that I had it all on camera, would show it to the neighbour, so expect a visit. Would love to have had the satisfaction of chinning him, but he is too old. His missus bleated in about by-laws, I mentioned BiB and criminal damage raps, and they duly paid the victim.

Still no proof on ours but it was very satisfying getting this young lad recompense for the damage caused by this septuagenarian vandal. The lad had sunk a lot of hard earned to get that car instead of pissing it up the wall and generally enjoying himself.

Scum the lot of them. No respect for other peoples' property. Should have the same done to their skin.

That looks like it could have been done by some careless bint squeezing between cars with her handbag maybe? Those things seem to be covered in little metal barbs for scratching stuff.

Its the only chance scum get to access 20 grands worth of your possessions covertly and take out their jealousy and make a point, then scarper feeling all righteous and happy they have caused some damage to their perceived enemy, i.e. someone who has something they don't.

The value of the car isn't really the main factor, anything nice or different that piques the morons interest is subject to it, I mean look at this,

Really boils my urine, no need for it and it's usually down to jealousy.

Had my 1week old golf r left with a huge door dent a couple of weeks ago, no note left. Dent luckily didn't break the paint but it was large enough to know you had done it and to then drive away is poor.

Its all envy and a really nasty thing to do to someone else's pride and joy.

Bad luck OP - have you checked with Asda CCTV maybe they will be able to find them and allow BiB to find them.

Too straight to have been done maliciously. This looks like something has brushed against the car.

I was waiting for that and I know what you mean but it hasn't been anywhere apart from the supermarket.

ETA I should also add that my old man restores, repairs and paints classic cars, he said it's a definite ring or blade scraped on it, much cleaner than a key.

Try asking the supermarket if they have any CCTV footage...

I'd be interested to see the footage of somebody accidentally scraping an umbrella along 2+ foot of the roof line of a car.

wink

Closing an umbrella at the back of a car and turning around and dragging it over your car somewhat perhaps?

Much more feasible than they got out a straight edge ruler or similar and gently without going down to the metal marked up an almost perfectly straight line with no flicker or flinch at either end.

Is it easier to do a straight line with an umbrella? Besides it wasn't raining wink

My 5 series is a key magnet, both sides have been scratched d and I've also lost count of the number of different paint colours appearing on the bumpers.

At least being a company car I don't have to care. I would be decidedly pissed off it was my own car though.

Just a lot of twunts out there I guess

Edit: spellchecker twunt smile

Perhaps the person scratching the car thought oh it will only be a company car so doesn't matter....
