Mine's due a renewal now. Will I have to cancel it in a month and go electronic? Or will it last 6 months?

No I haven't searched.
Any tax that is on the car currently will remain up to when it expires, the only difference will be after the 1st of October, you don't have to display the tax disc.

It wil still last 6 months, but you won't need to display it in the windscreen come October.
