Browsing autotrader I saw a car but had Indy plate advertising on its plates covered up

Rang them up and I asked could I have the reg number to do a full spec check

He said they don't like giving it out, they have full details and hpi clear. Well I'm not travelling 100+ miles without knowing the car spec (as its a BMW options are key)

Rant over !!

I always ask about options that are important to me. Why not ask?

They may have been stung with plate cloning before-Autotrader is rife with it.
Still doesn't help you with your quest though and them in trying to sell anything.
You could ask for the last seven of the chassis number and use a VIN decoder http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

Well with a reg I can find out chassis number

That's the link above I use for BMW spec with vin
BMW options is a minefield so doubt most Indy will know it all

But reg also helps check mot dates and prices

I was just surprised how unhelpful he was although he gave it to me in the end

Didn't ask about can he help, find anything out for me etc.

That's why I prefer private buys as I don't have to pay Indy margins for rubbish service

In that case, shouldn't the thread title be: Indy trader was a bit suspicious of my request but gave me what I asked for once I'd explained what I wanted?

The link posted is really useful. How do you convert the reg number to a VIN to input into that link?
Thanks
G.
