Engine service light reset - does this sound reasonable?
Discussion
Hi all
Bought a Chrysler Delta in April from a dealer in Manchester (I live in Scotland). Car was serviced at 17,000 miles just before I bought it and the car has an 18,000 mile service window.
I'm now at 21,000 miles and the service window light has come on. According to the owners manual, it is automatically set at 35,000K which suggests that the dealer didn't reset the service window when it was serviced.
I've contacted a chrysler dealer in Scotland and they have quoted me £48+VAT just to reset the light. Is this reasonable or takign the p'''?
I've contacted the dealer I purchased from but I'm not holding my breath for a response, let alone any compensation for this outlay due to their error.
Owners manual doesn't say how to reset the light from the dash and I can't find anything online for the delta. Any suggestions for a manual reset?

£48 + VAT is the hours labour
does it really take an hour? it is a piss-take in my opinon
See if you can find a local indy who could do the job for you.
My honda doesnt have a service warning light thingy, so i go on miles / months. You can still do this too. My wifes BMW does have a service indicator but I dont trust it one bit, so I still count the miles!
[edit] could try this one?

Thanks IanCress, I'll try that. Where did you find this? I couldn't find anything through a google. I tried Ypsilon too thinking that the procedures will be the same. The owner's manual just mentions to take it to a dealer to be reset...surprise, surprise!
Actually, ignore my advice. On reading the website properly, it just suggested answers based on similar questions, rather than an answer specifically for the Chrysler Delta. It may be a five minute job, but the £48 + vat charge isn't solely for the technicians labour, theirs also the cost of the machine itself and the ancillaries for that.
And as for compensation from the original dealer ? Really ? Would your anger be dissipated by a £20 note or sum such token figure ? Is the answer to all life's questions compensation ?
Sorry if this sounds harsh OP, but as you travelled all the way from Scotland to Manchester to presumably save yourself a few quid, you aren't really doing anything to remove the stereotype of your typical Scotsman. Just imagine, if/when the vote goes for independence, you won't even be allowed to travel to England again to pick up your compensation. Lol.
Ps, all said in jest. Burn him, then ram frozen sausages into the Dealers forecourt. It's the only way.

Forgive me for not wanting to be out of pocket for something that wasn't my fault. How very Scottish of me to contact the person who made the mistake in the hope that they will put right what they have done wrong. I'll just pay the £55 so as not to ruffle any feathers. What's £55 quid anyway. And as for compensation from the original dealer ? Really ? Would your anger be dissipated by a £20 note or sum such token figure ? Freedom!
Strip dash, remove bulb, never have it serviced again. When you sell it, tell them its just been serviced and the light will come on sometime the next time it wants doing. Sounds like a bargain anyway! My mate took a Sprinter Van to MB and it cost him £250+VAT for the privilege of them plugging their diagnostics machine in and extinguishing a light after some work had been done on it at another garage and they couldn't get theirs to do it.

Freedom!
I bought a nearly new car, and 4 months later, the starter motor failed.Freedom!
I called the local indy garage. The guy came round and fitted a re-con starter on my driveway. They charged just under £200 all in and it was sorted the same day.
Of course, I could have claimed on the supplied warranty. I could have waited for recovery to the supplying dealer. I could have waited a day for them to fix it, and then wasted half a day going to pick it up.
But I needed the car and I couldn't be arsed.
So what's £55 quid anyway?
Sod all, in the grand scheme my friend.

What? You bought a nearly new car, under warranty, yet paid £200 to get it fixed? I called the local indy garage. The guy came round and fitted a re-con starter on my driveway. They charged just under £200 all in and it was sorted the same day.

Clearly you must be a high roller, back on planet earth, £55 is a lot of money, especially for a 5 minute job.

OK, to clarify, I bought a nearly new car (as in 4,000 miles on the clock) just out of manufacturer's warranty but still covered by the dealer's own.Clearly you must be a high roller, back on planet earth, £55 is a lot of money, especially for a 5 minute job.
But, the point remains: £55 is sod all, especially considering that the OP's probably already lost several grand in depreciation just buying the car in the first place.
