Young driver insurance. good price but an odd requirement

Just insured a Terios for my son in his own name and his own policy as a 18yr old new driver, with a nautically named multicar provider. Was surprised it was only £500 fully comp. just as I was thinking I'd got a bargain the company said I was required to re-register the car in his name (we'd owned it for 2 years and insured it with them already). Then they said that this means the car was now £100 more as it was classed as acquired today!! oh well, We'd bought the car intending him to have it...
