I've got a van for when I need to transport stuff at the moment but it's just too short when I'm moving motorbikes etc. I don't want a great big van however, so thinking a pickup truck would be a viable option?

I want decent mpg so preferably 2 wheel drive, and want it to be cheap - no more than 2k.

Any suggestion?

yes Most at that price (especially base-model 2WD ones) will have been builder's snotters before being used by the nice man with a funny accent (and his pitbull) that offered to do your driveway with some spare tarmac from a job 'round the corner.

OP, do you have a vehicle that could tow a trailer?

I do have a vehicle for towing but nowhere to store a trailer unfortunately.

Looking at vw caddys, seem to be able to pick one up for about a grand, and look in good enough nick.

Ford Ranger

Often overlooked, unfashionable and under budget.

Will a bike fit in a Caddy pick up ?

I used to use P100s for my Moto X bikes and they only just fitted in there.

Best to simply look on Ebay and AT and see what comes up - you can get a decent pick up for below £2k but so many get exported these days it's a lot harder to find them.

Keep the van but fit a towbar and get one of these

A mate had one and used to just chuck it in the boot of his car when going to pick up a bike.
