Retaining a registration number

I want to put my current car reg on retention for later transfer to a new car, and make the sale of my old one more painless .. easy enough I think by paying the fee and filling in the form, but it's not clear to me what happens to the car that it comes off .. does it automatically get assigned a period reg as part on the retention fee?

Yes it will get a reg plate from original date of issue/manufacture, My old car got its original registration back.

The car will go back on to it's original number which is all part of the retention process of £105 which includes the transfer fee for when you do put it on to your next car within the year.
