Woman refuses to give way
Discussion
I've seen this recently. Young bird drove onto a single car width river crossing to meet oncoming traffic and refuses to reverse. She was sitting in her car smoking a cigarette having a stare down with the guy in the car opposite. Apparently she "can't reverse" because her passenger wing mirror had been knocked off.
Ended up reversing out for her because it was going nowhere and there were about 50 cars waiting. Made sure I parked it where she would have to wait until everybody she held up had gone past before she could get going. Dumb bint.

I had one of these a couple of months ago. After sitting there for a minute or two with my engine off and her and her passenger going absolutely mental at me from their car, making it quite clear that they would not reverse the 2 metres back into the space they'd just pulled out of. And that myself and the 3 cars behind me should all reverse the 100m back to a clear spot, I took enormous pleasure in getting out of my car walking to her window and calmly informing her she was driving the wrong down a one way street. The look of complete and utter deflation on her and her passenger's faces was great, it still cheers me up when I think about it now.
Frighteningly, it seems she's not refusing to move because she won't, she's refusing because she can't. The passenger agrees that they'll move if someone sees them back. Back into that space big enough for three Range Rovers in her small hatchback.
I'm not sure why we bother with a test, we really might just as well give away licences in boxes of Cornflakes.
Simon.

I wonder whether she was already on the road when the other cars appeared?
This happens on a road in our village with cars parked down solidly down one side and intermittently down the other.
Now and again you'll get a driver on the intermittent side who, rather than back off a bit (that's all it would take, they wouldn't need to stop) will head straight towards you at speed - there's nowhere you can go and both car end up face to face in the middle of the road. I've sat there with my arms folded waiting for them to go back a few yards.

The bones of it I think, is some people just can't reverse to save their lives.
How much reversing is covered on the test I wonder, apart from reversing around one corner. Does it cover parallel parking.
Before someone asks, I don't know because I took my test in a Bedford RL 3 ton truck which covered me for a car, (so I have never taken a test in a car).
All reversing was done by mirrors in the truck.

I went to Amsterdam a couple of years back and saw two cars nose-to-nose on one of the small bridges that crosses the canals.
They both had engines off and one was even reading a book. It was a complete stand-off but with no shouting or cursing just stubborn refusal to move.
Eventually, another car came up behind one of the cars in question, so the other started the engine, calmly reversed back, then everyone went on their way.
Bizarre.

So do we think the guy standing in the doorway was really a police officer?
Perhaps one of the bystanders could have followed this example:

The woman would never have learned to reverse if somebody does it for her every time.. make her do it herself... She's a big girl now..Perhaps one of the bystanders could have followed this example:

Its one thing doing that to a stranger but many years back a group of us were waiting in a public car park to do wedding car duty for a friend.Perhaps one of the bystanders could have followed this example:

We stand and watch a lady trying to get her Range Rover out of a parking space, multiple attempts with no success at which point drivers and passengers door open, bloke swaps places with the lady and manoeuvres straight out.
His only mistake was not having one half ars*d attempt first because she really was not a happy bunny when they drove past us, gave us a laugh though.
