Help me out PH

Citroen C6 - is this a great car or a pissing awful one that no Petrolhead should be seen in?

It's what matters to you, if you like it go for it.

It is waaaaay beyond great. Socks it to the Germans by not playing their game.

Ultra cool, in the sense that it's bloody brilliant. Well it's brilliant looking, not sure on the other aspects. I'd love to be brave/stylish enough to buy one but I don't have the dress sense to pull it off.

Ice cold. V6 petrol or diesel makes it Arctic.

Brilliantly cool. Especially with V6 power. Probably the only modern French car I would buy. In black.

Definitely Arctic cool, French class at it's best. Only to be driven whilst perfectly dressed and artistically puffing away on a gauloises.

Cheers folks. Shall look to sell the work hack and ignore my brother (he drives bland BMW by the way....).

Just missed out on a real bargain by £5 on the bay tonight. Smarting slightly as I really wanted that car!

It's staggeringly good looking, nice to drive and filled with interesting technology that actually enhances the driving experience (a rare thing these days). Very, very cool!

You may, of course, have dodged a bullet, too.

I am always wary of traders selling stuff with advertised faults - if they can't fix it quickly and cheaply, I bet I won't be able to smile

Would you rather they didn't advertise 'em??

For a V6 diesel, the average quoted 32.5mpg figure is poor, in my humblest.

V6 diesels in the Audi A6 and 5 series are much more frugal.

It was a hydraulic leak. How expensive can that be? Sphere's are not expensive.

Easier to diagnose that our other car with Air Suspension.

No, of course not, maybe I should've been a bit clearer. If the Ad says "this car has fault X we don't know what the cause of it is, it might just be a leaky pipe" I tend to be suspicious. If I was selling a car, trade or private with a fault so obvious I had to draw attention to it, I reckon I'd at least have a cursory go at diagnosis. If I was in the trade, I might even have some good contacts to help...so I'm not sure I always believe the "I don't know what the cause is" line, that's all, but people can pay the cash and take a chance of course, and it's to their credit that they mention it.

Normally I would agree, but hydro suspension in Citroens tends to put off many a mechanic who has memories of trying to fettle a troublesome XM or similar. The C6's is apparently much friendlier, and usually it's a sphere or simple line issue.

Still for sale several weeks after I posted it? Colour me surprised.

In which case they've done themselves (on their own estimate) out of 3-4K for a trivial fault - an odd way to go on. I am familiar with BX hydraulics - this stuff holds no (almost no) fear for me, but this is at a difficult age where I suspect major components may still be a bit expensive.

Why not mend it and make 3K more on the sale then? Seems a very odd business model.
