(Yay?)

http://www.hyundai.co.uk/coming-soon/genesis?utm_s...

It's a seriously impressive car but DriveTheDeal is suggesting that list price on this is £48k, and they won't be bringing in enough to discount them. CO2 is also 261g/km.

There is a BMW 730d advertised at £10k less than that...

Will drop to a sensible price very quickly, don't worry: Soon be amongst the W124s on the barge thread!

I'm all for it and think we will be looking back at a rise in Korean cars in a couple of decades in the same way as we do with Japanese cars now.

Been in a Genesis in the US. It is a nice place to be.
Although the Equus is better.

If there is a sweetener for it as a company car could be getting a place.... but it'll take a while to compete with the Germans I expect, even Japanese motors aren't that comman in that sector at that price? Tell me i'm wrong?

Weirdly I do like the look of these - gotta be the right price though.

PS - what's the 730d comparison? Are we comparing two brand new cars there?

Pre-reg with new, but I'm sure you could get a new 730d for less than you could get a new Genesis - that's buying cash, never mind leasing.

I've driven the previous shape Genesis (it's actually not as big or spacious as a 7 Series, though it's a little larger than a 5 Series) and it was a good car with pretty vague steering.

However in the US it's $38k so call it £23k + taxes so this really needs to be about £33k and preferably with a 2 litre, 200 bhp diesel - at which point it would do very well regardless of the brand.

I'd take the genesis over a 7 series

I wish they'd bring the Coupe here instead.

Isn't the Hyundai a petrol, anyway, so comparison to the 730d isn't really valid?

Point taken, Broadspeed has the 740i for £39,144 brand new, or a 535i Luxury for £35,540.

In the US a Genesis is about $38k, a 740i is about $74k and a 535i about $55k.

Not really, the BIK tax would be horrible.

Yeah it does look rather expensive. I'm not sure whether they actually expect to sell any at that price - maybe it's just a halo model they can sit in the show-room. hehe

If I had that much to spend on a big luxury car, my money would be going to Tesla. smile

Looks very Peugeot and Citroen, that thing.

Nice to see the return of the bog-standard marque's big car. What was the last one we had over here that wasn't the Phaeton? Senator?
