I've tried some wd40 but seems the mechanism isn't popping back up to lock and click

Will take it to an Indy garage, but what are the solutions?
Is it a big job to change the actual latch?

Piece of piss usually. The thing is normally just bolted to the floor with one big bolt. You might have to remove the seat to get at it though.

To keep driving the car for the time being, when you pull the belt across you, just flip the end around 180 degrees and clip it into the passenger latch.

It's actually on a third row bmw x5 2008 car

Might drop bmw customer services an email to see what they say as surely these shouldn't fail so quickly?

Just be careful the gunpowder charge doesn't go off in your face.

If it's a kids seat it's probably gummed up with sweets and fizzy pop, unbolt it and try washing it out with "hot" water then use a decent lube spray (not WD40), if it's pre tensioned take it to a dealer or garage and let them worry about it going off in thier face wink

Translation

I bought an expensive car to impress the neighbours. Unfortunately I don't have the money that an expensive car requires to run it so I'll just skimp everywhere and if something goes wrong I'll whinge that it's someone else's fault.

Don't get me wrong. The OPs not alone in his attitude that "I bought an expensive car why should I pay for it's upkeep"

I notice that there's a direct correlation between the increase in people getting Car Finance to pay for cars and the number of people that can't afford to run them...

Your kids probably rammed something in to the mechanism.
