We have a baby on the way and my Westfield is looking less tenable as a second car. What recommendations do people have for a fun car which will swallow a baby seat in the back. Budget is about £10k. Early candidates are:

3 series estate - we had a 328i in the past and it was enormous fun
996 - top end of budget window but always wanted a 911
6 series - practical fast but unsightly. Budget will get an old leggy one.

I'm in the same situation with our first baby arriving in December.

I have a Caterham 7 which I'm keeping. The wife has the baby carrier/shopping car.

The Caterham is my hobby and my release. That moment you get a couple of hours spare the Westfield will be great. Keep it ;-)

I used an Impreza STi for my twins. Ideal, and piece of mind if you need to get to the doctors quickly.

I had a Cayman for a while, but I got fed up with not getting out in it over the weekend. If you can only run two cars, then having a 4 seat weekender is the way to go.

KEEP THE WESTFIELD.

If you must buy a tool for carrying the sprog buy a cheap shopping car, a Focus Estate should be big and cheap. You will need the Westfield for the occasional blast about to remember what fun was.

If you want a 911 and always have and your budget allows go for it! You will regret it if you don't

Sti is a good shout - apart from the cavernous boot and 4 doors being practical the noise is really good at putting babies to sleep - itd knock mine out in five-ten minutes even if he was screaming his arse off whereas the missus picasso would take at least half an hour on a good day

I think it's the off kilter rumble that did it - unless it was just exhaust fumes getting into the cabin of course

(caveat:classic with decat and 3"afterburner vortex system)

That's what I did - perfect for 2 kids, practical, safe, yet very very very fast. Much faster than a 996 in fact!
