The October tax thingy - help me out please
Discussion
I'm about to sell a car to a dealer that is taxed until end Feb. He's asked me to leave the tax on it so he can use it as one of his fleet until he advertises it probably in a couple of months and has offered me a token gesture to leave said tax in place.
What will happen when he sells the car? Will I automatically be rebated for the remaining full months? Will he? Will DVLA just conveniently forget to give anyone anything and force the new owner to buy tax when they purchase the car?

As far as I know this is what will happen.
If a car is sold before the end of September whatever tax is left will stay with the vehicle, unless the seller claims it back from the dvla by returning the disc.
If a car is sold from 1st October whatever tax is still assigned to that vehicle will be returned back to the previous owner.
