Mazda RX8 radio

The guy I bought it from entered the wrong code 3 times and now it's locked.

I looked up the sequence and unlock codes on the internet but none of the codes seem to work for me. Other people have said they work fine.

I also read that if the radio is locked you have to buy a new one, but surely that can't be the case.

Anyone got this car and knows what to do?

(press 6, AM, Auto-m, Seek+ ... then enter 3511 ... then hold Auto-m and press 6)

^ that's what the RX8 club told me but it doesn't work for me
