Another What To Buy Thread

Mrs Torque has a 6 year old 2.0 Scirocco and as I've recently changed my car she reckons she's hard done by. She's got a point as I've changed my E46 M3 to an E93, even though I've promised to keep the Volvo estate as the DD. She'd like another VW, but having seen photos of the 2015 MX5 she's quite keen on one of them, as long as I can afford something new. She doesn't use the VW's 4 seats very often so a 2 seater would be OK and I quite like the idea of the MX5. However, I had thought about a Toyota GT86 or a Subaru BRZ, although she'd think they are naff and might take a bit of convincing.
So assuming that I pay £20,000-ish for a long term keeper where does the PH massive think I should put the cash?

After just buying a replacement for a Golf GTD, which replaced my Scirocco, I had a look at a few in this segment.
Tried a GT86 and was very impressed. I just didn't quite get the feeling I wanted. I tried an RCZ which I was surprised to actually quite enjoy, but hate to say I just didn't want to buy French.
I ended up trying a 220i which felt really good. I just wanted a tiny bit more in performance, and was given a M235i which just blew me away. Terribly expensive, more than what I wanted to spend and some, but it just felt so planted on the road.
That being said, you could probably pick up a 220i for close to that, and felt the best to drive IMO. Also practical enough, understated looks, and plenty of equipment for me.
