When did this warranty start?
Discussion
Hello all
Here's a bit of a novel warranty query.
Last year my parents bought a new (ie. unregistered up til that point) motorhome, so it is on a 13 plate.
The actual chassis is a Renault and is a 2012, but the actual entire motorhome was bought and registered in 2013 (reiterating this to avoid confusion).
Renault say that the warranty is 2 years, so has just run out. I appreciate that the actual running gear etc was sold to the motorhome manufacturer in 2012 but is it not the date that the end user, the consumer (ie. my parents) take delivery of the motorhome that is the date from which any warranty should commence?
(They've not got a problem with the motorhome, it's just that losing a year of the Renault warranty (plus any breakdown cover and so on) seems a bit out of order. Does the same happen when people build tippers or other coachbuilders do things with the base units?

It's a common problem, especially with motor homes.
The manufacturers system will rely solely on the chassis number, and the warranty will run from the date it is first sold (i.e. when they sold it to the coach builder).
It's quite common though that manufacturers will re-align their warranty to run from the date of first registration if you contact them and provide them with all the required docs.
