So after searching the usual places for big cars with big engines which I can't afford, one brand seems to pop up more than others; Maserati

Why are they so cheap compared to other exotica?

Example, this 2006 quattroporte is just £15k (and it's the lower tax bracket),

that's a huge amount of car for not very much money!!!

Luke.

They're badly made and break a lot. Then cost thousands to put right.

Go for it..

Are they really that bad? A friend of mine had a 4200GT which was pretty much faultless. I too have heard they are made badly but have been tempted also...

Place I get my Porsche serviced is also a Mazzer Indie. I once got a work estimate from them for a QP by mistake.

I nearly had a heart attack as the first thing I looked at was the total. The I had a look at the parts and stuff - mental compared to the Porsche.

I'd love a Maserati but I simply couldn't entertain the running costs.

It's not made in Germany, therefore the perception is that it shall explode and cost you your house.

I'd guess the combination of V8 performance with V12 Ferrari running costs.

When a part breaks where do you go? I think the dealers will have you over a barrel with the supply. I doubt the breakers are overflowing with Maser bits. I'd love one, but only as a garden ornament. Cool as hell though.

The only guy I know with one has a nervous tick since he got it, the throttle jammed open and spat him into a field, the electronic throttle went haywire.

He now hates it.

I laughed at the random wedding photos in that ad.

Wiper blades? Replacement exhaust system? We need to know before we can comment.

I was looking at GranTurismos for a little one. I spotted a nice looking one. Read the blurb... "fully serviced with bills to prove it, last service was done [recently] at Joe Macari at a cost of £8000". yikesyikesyikes

NOT information that was likely to encourage most sellers...

17.9mpg and the potential for total financial ruination for something that isn't particularly good or mind-bendingly fast (compared to what 15k could buy you elsewhere). I can absolutely see why they are relatively cheap.

The throttle control is a common fault on some models.

The carbon track wears out, but these can be refurbished for around £400.

There was a 3200GT on Wheeler Dealers a while back with throttle problems where it was virtually either on or off.

I was also looking at GT's and time after time the person selling the car seems to think it is a good idea to mention details like that hehe
