Just a bit of fun......

1) Assume the "older" used cars are in mint condition, very low mileage and the finest example of their type in the UK.

2) Ignore any "money" or "investment potential" considerations, make your choice simply on which you would rather own and drive.

b) 1961 3.8 Jaguar "E" type convertible or Brand new "F" type convertible

d) Aston Martin DB5 (as seen in "Goldfinger") or Brand new Aston Martin V8 coupe

e) Ferrari Enzo or Bugatti Veyron

f) 1968 Ford Cortina 1600E or Brand new Vauxhall Astra 2.0 (petrol)

g) 1969 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Mk1 or Brand new Jaguar XJ

Most of the old cars you've written i'd class as st, so it's not so much wanting the newer cars, than not-wanting the older ones.

I appear to have mainly gone for the older cars. But then modern cars are a bit dull to me..

A) the mk1 Escort Mexico because I love the idea of driving one

B) the E-type as it's a classic beautiful shape and I'm not a fan of the F-type boxedin

C) the new mx5. Either brand new concept design thing they released this month or the current shape because the mx5 is appealing enough but the BBR (?) 200bhp tuning package really presses my buttons.

D) the DB5 with the caveat that I'd have to drive it first because I love the V8 vantage (but they can keep the random colour coding, such especially the "lips").

E) the Veyron but it's a close call. Only reason the Veyron wins is because, although I love the ferrari v12, I'd rather have a La Ferrari, or if that was unavailable, I'd be happy with a 599 GTB, HGTE, GTO or f12 to satisfy that itch for a glorious high revving modern Ferrari V12.

F) I have no real love for either but would choose the Astra if I was on pain of death.

G) another tough one. XJ6 because of the Sweeney, modern XJ because it's fabulous. I'd choose the modern XJ.

H) the 427 cobra replica - just look at it.

I) the new TT as I like it looks and it appeals to me on many levels, especially in equivalent R or RS format, and I don't like the TR6. Simples.

J) the XR4i - why? Because I owned one briefly and nostalgia is a powerful motive. Not only that, but I'd also spend a small fortune at the local body shop and reputed garage to fully convert it, running gear and all, to a 400bhp T4 turbo'd 3-door cosworth replica. And I'd thrash the pants of it every chance I got.

K) I like that shape capri but I like the mk2 focus RS more, so that's what I'd choose

Good idea for a thread btw. Really got me thinking and had to spend some time compiling that list, even goin as far as googling images of the various cars. Nice one biggrin

Interesting in depth reply thanks for that, and thanks to everyone else who have responded....Appreciated.

I threw in the Capri because I had one from new in 1978 and wish I'd have kept it.

Out of all those cars my dream car would be the Gardner Douglas.

a) 1970 Ford Escort Mk 1 Mexico or Brand new pov spec BMW 3 series (Petrol)
A pov spec 3 is so dull but a Mexico is hardly worth getting excited about, Ignoring the top spec cars (twin cam or RS1600), can I have an RS2000 instead?

Too close to call!
