Good Afternoon All,

Apologies if this is the wrong section but I did a search and couldn't find any threads about this place. I have just this week come back from America after spending three weeks in California and Las Vegas. I was aware of the Shelby Factory but didn't realise how close it is to the strip! Anyone taking any time in Vegas it is well worth a visit. If you are feeling brave (like we were in the 110 degree heat!) it is about 1.5 mile walk from Mandalay Bay.

The building itself is very modern and I think only opened a couple of years ago. As you go inside there is a huge gift shop (oh the joys of commercialisation) and then the heritage centre itself. There is a huge display of pretty much every Shelby ever made from the Cobra to the latest Shelby Focus and Raptor. They are always running tours which are free and well worth going on. The tour guide was very knowledgable and passionate about Shelby.

On the tour you also go to go in the factory which was very interesting. It's basically a big warehouse with about 40 2 post ramps, all of which were full up and apparently there is a backlog going well into next year. One person is assigned a car and it sits on the ramp for 2-3 weeks and the one mechanic replaces everything necessary from suspension to exhausts to superchargers. When we were there 90% of the cars in there were Mustangs but they also had a few Raptor F-150s and only one Focus. Chatting to the guy who did the tour, he was telling me that the Focus hasn't been all that popular. Probably because the conversion costs an additional $16,000 over the price of a standard Focus ST!

Anyway, I only got a few pics for the moment that were on my phone but I will update this later with lots, lots more pics from my camera! Anyone going to Vegas, this place is well worth a visit!

I visited the old factory out by the speedway about 18 months ago, so I think the new place is only about a year old.

As you say, the new site is easily visitable without a rental car now.
