£100K Garage: Gareth Stubbs

A trio of modern heroes for Gareth, plus an 80s legend for good measure

Name: Gareth Stubbs
Previously owned: Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 GP
Currently owned: The same Fiat Grande Punto! Will rectify soon once I've left university...
On the shortlist: "As a 21 year-old student my responsibilities are quite low but I frequently have to take a bunch of lads to rugby so an estate is ideal for throwing in kit.

"Something focused for road and track is also a must, with a manual box and rear drive so I can get stuck in about real driving, a hot hatch for nipping about in and finally at least one classic to smoke about in and enjoy the charms of an old car."

Audi RS4 Avant
Cost:
£21,750
Balance: £78,250
Why I chose it: "The B7 is a real high point for Audi RS in my eyes. Its small proportions, naturally aspirated engine and manual gearbox make it a tempting proposition for thrashing on a B-road, but it can also swallow several kit bags and eat miles. Being 4WD makes it an ideal all year proposition. Silver suits it too, subtle to those oblivious to RS Audis and menacing to those in the know."

Porsche Cayman R
Cost:
£41,990
Balance: £36,260
Why I chose it: "I'd love to have a 997 GT3 in here but the rate they are appreciating makes that impossible. The Cayman R however, with a normally aspirated flat six, manual box and lightweight ethos is a more than fitting replacement. Ideally I'd like the lightweight seats but other than that, the colour and gearbox make this the perfect road and track weapon."

Renault Clio Cup 200
Cost:
£12,150
Balance: £24,110
Why I chose it: "This is something I'm really aspiring to own in the next couple of years. Judging by the press reaction to the new Renaultsport Clio, I figure this is a future classic. With the optional Recaros and Cup chassis this is the perfect spec for a B-road thrash or track day while also perfectly happy to nip into town and park without worrying too badly about a nasty scratch and dent occurring."

BMW M635 CSi
Cost:
£20,950
Balance: £3,160
Why I chose it: "I love old Beemers, especially from the 80s. The M635 CSi is a perfect symbol of 80s cool in my opinion. It's easy to imagine that big, lusty in line six pulling you forward on a sunny day. Perfect for road trips or just nipping to the shop, this one appeals with its red paintwork and keen pricing. I think I'd end up using it all the time. When it works..."

Ah! I love the old Beemers of that era. They all seem to be trying a bit hard these days.

One of the better garages
And at least it wouldnt look like a future scrap yard like many peoples garages smile

Im not that mechanically minded, so like this garage as i feel theirs a reasonable chance that each of the cars would start

There is hope for the playstation generation, the realm is safe in their hands.

Very rounded garage and great choices. Bit German but cannot fault the quality and diversity.

The BMW is from left field but a great choice. Really like them.

No bikes but hey there is still time.

Having a clio 200 myself, I really like your other choices to go along side it!

Great choices (a yellow 200 would be a better mind wink), makes up for the abomination of a garage last time around!!

Nope, it's an M635 CSi. And if that engine was in an E28 it'd probably cost a good chunk more

A nice choice - especially like the 80's 635.

Personally i dislike BMW as a brand in general, however, both the older designed 635CSI and to a similar extent the 640/650 are both supremely elegant designs IMO with great engines as an ideal GT proposition.

Good choices if I had 100k to spend on road cars my list would be very similar I think. smile I'd probably, because I'm tight, substitute a Cayman S for an R though and have 20k+ to buy another car.
