Recommend Me a Garage In/ Near Surrey for Restoration Work
Discussion
Afternoon all!
Apologies if this isn't the right section but the French Bred forum doesn't see too much traffic and this includes a mechanical refurb as well a respray hence the Bodywork forum doesn't feel like the best fit.
To cut a long story short - The Clio Williams 3 I recently bought needs a thorough going over including a full (every panel) respray.
The shell is effectively rust free as the previous owner sorted the arches but I need a PROPER respray this time (last time the glass was masked and left in and the primer wasn't sanded smooth so it has a lot of problems), which I assume requires going back to metal.
Since I think it needs to go back to metal it would be good to get the crashy suspension (possibly polybushed parts replaced for standard) sorted and have the engine and 'box out (will have the engine built and maybe fettled by a specialist), subframe stripped, rust sorted and painted and then some interior trimming and tidying done... While all that is being done, I imagine the brake calipers may need a refurb or maybe some new brake lines, wiring, plumbing etc.
Basically - I want the car completely stripped, cleaned and refreshed, though it shouldn't require many new parts. A mechanical detail, if that's a better way of explaining it, on top of a respray.
It would be great if that company/ garage was in and around Surrey (I am in Epsom) as I assume this isn't a quick process and it would be nice to be able to pop in and get some photos of progress for a build thread on here etc.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I find personal recommendation is often the way forward when you're looking for someone to do a quality job like this. There will be a budget but if I am confident I am effectively getting a (fairly) new car back, then it can be quite a 'healthy' budget. I have already paid £5.5k for a car that needs all this work so it needs to be done properly or it's throwing good money after bad!

Hi Dom,
Speak to Mark at County Coachworks in Kingston. His work is second to none and you will not be disappointed with the results.
His number is 020 8547 2397. I will pre warn you that he is a proper grumpy sod and will almost come across as not being interested. Pay no attention to that. He is interested he just doesn't show it!

Thanks chaps - Couple of good suggestions to add to the list
Think I'll need some time off just to drive to each of the options to get an assessment and quote!
Ring Mark before you head over because he isn't in a couple of days most weeks and Pete won't be able to provide you with a price.

They're not overly expensive for what they do, certainly not in terms of hourly rates, but they won't bodge it.
That's exactly what I am looking for - It has been very, very bodged before and I (quite literally) paid the price by buying without viewing!I want a proper job this time and be left with a car that can be used daily for many years to come and be looking like it rolled off the line a lot less than 20yrs ago!
