My sister visited today and I thought I'd check over her car. I pulled out the dipstick and as I did so the bottom inch or so of plastic snapped off and fell down to the sump. Is this going to cause an issue before the next oil change? I'm assuming the filter will stop it causing any issues.

Not the filter but the gauze at the pickup.

Is she fit?

It's a 206 petrol.

And we walked up some big old hills for over 10 miles today so yeah she's pretty fit.

I have found they have always remained at the bottom of the sump in a single piece, approx. 50mm in length , the break occurring at the max oil mark of the plastic section.

It will drain out at the next oil drop, till then buy a replacement , not second-hand, as they are very prone to this kind of failure.

This happened 7 years ago to the wife's 206, not recoverd at the time and no issues since.

So it is entirely for peace of mind, then hehe

There's no way it'd get past the sieve-like gauze on the oil pickup, so it'll just sit in the sump until you drain the oil when it'll likely come out with it. No need for immediately trying to rescue it.

Give it a rest lads. Leave that kind of talk to the Lounge aye.
It's not funny in there either, just looks desperate and weird

OP - would change oil sooner rather than later and pick up a new dipstick from a scrappie

Or pick a new one up from Peugeot, one from the scrappies might be on its last legs as well.
