Infiniti previews 'Q80 Inspiration' concept

Infiniti takes aim at the A7, CLS and 6 Gran Coupe with Paris show car

Quite a looker, isn't it? Say what you want about Infiniti's road cars but there's no doubt it can produce arresting motor show plinth fodder. There's a real possibility of a production spec Q80 as well.

That it's full title is 'Q80 Inspiration' implies this car is probably a little way off the showroom floor. However the official line from is that the car is designed 'to shake up the the status quo in the premium large four-door club' and this Inspiration 'is to be taken as clear intent to have an entry into the premium fastback segment'.

We would take that to mean cars like the Mercedes CLS, Audi A7 and BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe but the Q80 is in fact longer than an Aston Rapide at 5,052mm. At 2,027mm wide and 1,350mm, the Infiniti is wider and lower too which must contribute to its svelte good looks.

Anything else? Infiniti states the October 2 launch will detail a hybrid powertrain and advanced adaptive suspension for the Q80 as well as 'additional technologies'. We know already the Q80 will seat four in yet another new arrangement that must get the marketeers all giddy with excitement: '1+1+1+1'. So expect individual seating with a load of leather, aluminium and carbon inside.

For the additional details and pics we'll have to wait until next Thursday but the Q80 could, could be one to look out for at Paris.

Matt really is good at forgetting to fill in the "thread title" when he posts.

So nothing like the new QX80 then?

A couple of hours?

That interior is awesome - looks like a LR/RR steering wheel though.

Shape wise, nowhere near as bland as it's target competitors...nowhere near.
Nissan now how have form on relatively closely releasing models that look like their concepts, bring this on I say. Glorious.

Silly comment, I wouldn't want a large Nissan any more (or less) than any other brand!! What the F has being a Nissan to do with whether its s good or bad vehicle...

Sadly that sort of badge snobbery is rife in the UK market so they'll have a very difficult time if they want to sell it here. I'm sure it'll do well elsewhere if it looks like that, though.

It's the SWB Range Rover. I tried to post a pic of the LWB but Apple have taken away the ability to copy image URLs in ios8.

Like the Muira? You know, that beautiful car that became dangerously unsafe at speed because its design gave it aerodynamic lift? Nah, give me the wind-tunnel designs every day of the week please. We don't ever need the old days back.
