Fast cars are wasted on me..
Discussion
I dont drive around recklessly, always keep it below 100 on the motorway, dont hoon, dont do track days and dont street race.
I love fast acceleration.
Yet for some reason I want a fast car. I am contemplating what to replace my M5 with when it sells. A well spec'd Mondeo would be fine, but I know I'd be bored with it after 10 metres, but I know I'd stand more chance of using the available power it has to offer.
But I cannot work out why I want a fast car. Fast cars are wasted on me. Anyone else feel that way, or is it just me?

Depends what you do.
My 70 horsepower Punto is fine for the commute it do in it.
My 150 bhp Alfa is fine for fast road stuff (too fast most of the time, I don't use full throttle much unless overtaking or going uphill).
On a racetrack though, it's frustrating. Faster than most cars round the corners then I can't get past on the straights and have to sit behind them in the corners again. Grrr.

So you're saying that when there is no traffic and the weather is good you never open it up a bit on a stretch of road you know well?
Ive a 300-400 brake celica with a screamer pipe hanging off its over sized turbo. Top speeds not really important at all given its the UK so sticky rubber and acceleration wheres the funs at Edited by izzzzythedog on Wednesday 24th September 23:20

As for the guy with the celica... nice car! But who are you trying to argue with? I didn't say anything about top speed.
And I'm no stranger to acceleration

I think its better to have power even if you don't use it much but its nice to know its there if you do need it, the problem is you can never have too much power though because whatever you have you will always get used to it.
Although I realised when I had my old 520d that when you haven't got any power it drives you mad and I missed having some power when I drove that and it just frustrated the hell out of me and its just not worth the pain driving something gutless if you don't have too because you will only end up hating it.
Obviously its all relative to what you have experienced though and my old boss thought his 520d was a flying machine so we all see things differently and I am sure that if you have experienced a fast bike then all cars feel slow in comparison.

It's always nice to know you have a fast car even if you don't use it for hooning.
Like when you're at some lights or roundabout and you know that guy in the Range Rover/White Audi is clearly sitting in the 'Right Turn Only' lane to make a quick dash in front of you. It's nice to be able to make sure he looks stupid.

I have a van, an iq & an impreza sti. The one that's often the most fun is surprisingly the iq as you can drive it like a hooligan & not exceed 40mph
however on fast roads I love my scoob as it has the power when you need it especially on the motorway. I am debating adding an mx5 this year as drove a mates & it was fantastic fun just wish it didn't look quite so girly!
