Painted rear drums...yay or nay?

Painting brake calipers is a common and easy visual mod (one I've done myself), but what if you have drums on the rears? To paint or not to paint. Personally I think they look extremely crap...

Id paint them black. Looks better than rust, but i wouldnt paint them no stand out colours like that red

If I was going to paint then I'd go black just to keep the rust off, red looks a bit silly.

I think it looks alright, but it's also a big sign screaming, this car probably isn't actually that quick

Can anyone please explain to me why,

• Painting calipers = good idea

but

• Painting drums = bad idea?

To my mind they are either both equally viable or both equally naff.

I think it's because disc brakes are views as a positive thing and drum brakes a negative one. Personally, I think both look ridiculous painted anything other than black.

Totally agree. My car came with painted callipers but I would never choose them myself. I'm only surprised they didn't fit blue LEDs to the washer jets as well!

brings a bit of bling to a car for sure but if you have drums then your cars either very dated or dog slow as it doesnt warrant decent brakes. So painting the drum highlights your cars naff , black hides it so thats a go-er

Why? For the rear brakes on non-performance orientated cars, they're better. Disc brakes and hand-brakes don't mix.

It is more to do with the quality of the braking system itself, not so much the paint colour of one of it's components...
