So, am in USA and the petrol over here comes in 80,85 and premium being 91 Ron. Surely we could have more affordable fuel if it was lower grade? Granted there's the obv environ issues with having more affordable fuel, how nice would it be to glug around in a big v8, adding octane booster if/when you nerd the perf hike.

US octane ratings are calculated differently.

I think 91 ron USA is 95 UK ron.

I only run 99 UK ron it's free BHP ok not free as it costs more but my cars mapped for 99 ron so is faster ;-)

Yeah but 81 over here .. Obviously a trade off between power avail and cost but for all those people who dont care about grunt could save some decent ££, sort or goes against the moving away from fossil fuels, but 10/20 years ago this could have been utilised ?

US isn't RON. It's RON+MON/2.

US regular is roughly the 91RON some European countries had for a bit.
US mid-grade is roughly our standard 95.
US premium is roughly our Super.

They are indeed, but they are still lower octane. And will always be cheaper than ours no matter what...

Most of the cost of fuel is tax. Petrol is actually very cheap so it doesn't matter what the cost is for lower grade petrol is.

It only gets expensive when it moves from the pump to the tank.

We should do a regional group buy on petrol from the refinery's wink
