I've got rid of the lockers on my alloys but they're oem on a 14 year old car, so hardly desirable to thieves.

I suppose it depends on the wheels/car in question.

Locking wheels nut are not a pian, the pratts who loose the locking wheel nut key are the pains !
How hard is it, i meen really, put it in a little yellow bag and zip tie it to the spare wheel/jack/wheel brace.
Obv there is the issue of the prev owner loosing it but still i stand ny my statment, it's not the keys but the looser of said keys that are the problem.

Have a look on Ebay to see if there are lots of wheels for your car on offer. If there are, keep your locking nuts!

On 3 occasions now I have found the locking key to me missing after having tyres done, always check before you leave.
Sure enough after insisting they put it back they found it in the garage, well on 2 occasions, the third time they couldn't find it. However they knew they had lost it as they paid to have new ones put on.

If my wheels ever need to come off before I even leave I ask about my locking nut. Cost me £40 to have the old ones removed and then I had to buy new ones to put in. Honestly I keep them in since 99 out of 100 times they won't get taken or looked at twice but that one time will ruin my month. Michelin tyres aren't cheap!

Well, in twenty odd years of them I have never had a problem, but for some reason I cant find it now, present and correct in the other two cars but not sure what I have done with it in mine, normally really careful.

I mean, if every situation was analysed, would locking wheel nuts be more of a problem for thieves or owners, I reckon they cause more problems for owners.

9 times out of 10 they take 5 mins to remove with either a undersized socket and a hammer or a special tool no probs for a criminal to remove.

I hate them specially when customers don't leave them out for me when its in for work then got to spend time looking through st to find it just put it on the seat to save me time please.

I always remove mine on any car I have.

The most stupid invention just like the coded radios. Not a problem for the thieves, major PITA for the owners.

Which car?

You may be able to order a replacement key if it's still got the original locking nuts in place, or if you've got the relevant card identifying the key.

ALternatively if it's a VW of a certain age there's only a choice of about 13 keys anyway. I found this out when my wheels disappeared one night.

They're the 1st thing I remove & throw in the bin on any car I buy, they just make doing anything on the car more inconvenient than it needs to be

Your reply was nicer than mine would have been - S0 What has clearly never lost anything in his life as he has a plan for every possibility

My issue with locking bolts is when the keys break (espcially the ones with pins that are made of chocolate)

My guess is you aren't local to me so can borrow then but a set of these normally shift them

Reverse thread cut into the socket - hammer on to start - breaker bar once they've got some bite

£16.99 from a hall of frauds (you must have one of those local and they are open to 4pm on Sunday)

Got rid of mine after they seized on, nowadays, the whole car is more likely to go missing instead of just the wheels.

So I should keep the key in the car

Brilliant

So the thief smashes a window and then nicks the wheels

No thanks

I'll keep the windows intact and leave the locking nuts off

Never lost the key myself, however I have had a couple of locking nuts that needed a serious amount of work to take off by the guys at my garage. Safe to say they were quickly changed.
