Is it just Land Rovers that suffer with EGR valve problems?

Nope, though a bit of pre-emptive maintenance goes a long way to mitigating issues. In my case I noticed lag on the throttle uptake, fifteen minutes to get the EGR body off (typical Italians not lubricating stuff meant that the plastic clip was harder than necessary to get off) and about an hour with a metal rod scraping off all the carbon build up out of the body and a bit of WD40 (not sprayed in but rubbed on) and no lag. I think it's the build up of carbon that ultimately takes out the valves seals.

This. A long, long way from being just Land Rovers.

Agreed, evil pieces of kit and put me off modern diesels.

Compared to dpf, egr valve are nothing don't forget a load of petrols have them too but don't get carbon'd up as much as diesels do.

They are the subject of many many threads in the Alfa forums. Deleting and. Linking seems to be very popular. On my 2.4 159 I have put a special restricted gasket on.

Just the MAF to sort out now. Life was so much easier with twin SUs on my old Minis.
