Just wondering how they check them over. Do they test drive them? Emissions test?

They didn't test drive mine. They did check the bodywork with some scanning device to check paint thickness, though.

Money was slightly under what was quoted on the site.

I have.

It was a really straight forward transaction.

They started it but didn't drive it, but I'm not sure this is typical.

I'd use them again if the offer was the most attractive option available.

Ditto. A lot of people slate WBAC but it's not as bad as people make out. After a few weeks' advertising at a reasonable price, getting a few nibbles but nothing concrete, I needed to get rid of the old car as I'd already bought a new one. It was the quickest and simplest way.

How much less than the initial offer do you typically walk away with?

Based on the respray/bodywork, they knocked off about 10% IIRC.

Dad used WBAC to dispose of his last car.

Didn't drive it but started it up.

This was in Feb 2011 with a 2000 V A6 2.8q saloon 108,000 miles.

The web offered £800 with the appointment slot. They gave him £850 for it mainly due to its FSH and only owner.

They knocked a couple of hundred quid off mine IIRC, which was probably about 4-5%.

If you sell them something with an undisclosed mechanical problem, is there any come back if they discover it later on (I guess they'll put them straight to auction anyway)

I fail to see how they could prove anything, used cars go wrong.

I do mystery shopping and had to mystery shop my branch of WBAC and back out of the deal before it was concluded
They offered a fair price for the car, minus their admin fee of about £60. It was raining so they just gave the car a quick once over and started it.
It was very difficult to back out once the guy got started though and he was pretty hacked off when I did back out and said I needed to think about it.

I guess they buy cars as seen so have to accept any problems found afterwards

Presumably they just sell on but get a decent price at auction? Wonder how much they tend to make on a car?

They used to be the buying arm of carcraft, not sure now. Carcraft needed a huge number of cars to kept up with their primary business of selling finance etc

British Car Auctions bought them last year.

I've used wewillbuyyourcar.com twice now (X5 and 350z) as they pay more than WBAC IME and come to your house, you also have the money in your account before they drive the car away.

I may have sold them a car with am exhaust system held together with putty. They didn't notice or care.

Do they typically pay the trade-in price of a car?

Where do they sell them for more?

Depends on the car.

I've asked them about some cars I ended up selling privately.
1/ I sold for £34K. They offered £17K.
2/ I sold for £1.8K. They offered £1.4K
3/ I sold for £2.6K to them. The offered what I would have expected to get privately.

It really all comes down to the popularity of the car how quickly they can flip them.

Edit. Many cars they sell to dealers to go on forecourts.
Others they take a gamble at auction.

Sold a 2009 Merc CLC to them last year. Turned up at the appointment and he had a poke round, started it and revved it, he said all seemed fine (it was) and we went inside. He actually offered me a few hundred over what they initially offered online because I'd accidentally put "average" in the mechanical condition section which was a bonus.

Walked away with the same amount of cash in my account as I would have had in a private sale.

Very much a win for me. Car turned up for sale at a Merc main dealer in Swindon (full approved used etc) so I guess they don't just go to carcraft.

Yes I sold them a car I bought from BCA the year before for the same money. They didn't do a emissions tests or anything of the like, just very quickly turned it on and reversed in/ out of the parking space to check the brakes and clutch.
