Motorhouse of Shipley - any experiences?
Discussion
Some nice looking motors here. I am tempted on the white RR Autobiography they have in stock but feeling hesitant to spend my cash with them as can't find much info online. Furthermore companies house shows them to be a dormant company so not sure what they are trading as and their website does not say either.
Anyone know them or anything about them good or bad please feel free to PM me. Thanks

I bought my mk1 MR2 from them in 1997! The buying experience was fine (not remarkable!) but the car was really good and I eventually kept it for almost seven years! I didn't need to visit them again....
At that time they had some high end cars in stock (911s, a lovely Cerbera....)
They have obviously been trading in high end cars for many years now ..... so must have some other happy customers.....

Haven't done a search, but if it was, that car had a few issues which were not disclosed at point of sale, ie major crash damage.
Could have been deleted as nothing comes up...Sorry W4NTED that I keep answering threads about them!!

I bought a car from them in 2011 - wouldn't recommend them though. They didn't bother doing a few of the things I requested (in writing) as part of the sale and the service book wasn't available until the day I collected the car. Despite being assured it had full main dealer service history, it didn't as one of them was a specialist. When I checked the previous MOT online several weeks later it was showing 20k miles more than the car was registering on the dash. Eventually after much legwork and stress on my part it turned out the dash wash set to km at the time of the MOT and this figure was recorded on the certificate - however Motorhouse weren't particularly helpful and should probably have spotted this in the first place. Lots of high end stock though.

Many thanks for this info.No experience here..
But generally speaking people only go on the Internet to complain about a company.
Rarely do they post saying 'I bought a car from here, they were great' who dos that? It also could look like advertising..
I'd suggest the lack of anything online would mean they're ok, but if it was me I'd go in eyes wide open anyway - I would at any dealer, and I'd certainly not pay a premium over a private sale.

That is true to some extent. I recently viewed a car with 911Virgin and found nothing but positives for them on this forum - people do give kudos where deserved. But generally speaking people only go on the Internet to complain about a company.

I know and have/still do work for them occasionally on the cars that need a little more detailing work than the norm. Saj who runs the ship (for most the cars in the showroom anyway, the brothers sell behind the scenes to footballers and high end people) is great, and they sell many many cars a month. He does admit to me that he doesn't like selling rare stuff (collectables) as it tends to bring questions of history etc, but most their stuff comes from auction and that's why they sell 'normal' sports cars. Like someone posted before, it takes 1 bad sale and they'll write till the cows come home, but the other 99 are happy as larry
And no, the white R8 was NOT from them - I got involved in that dispute so know for fact it was another dealer in the centre of Harrogate

It was Saj I dealt with throughout and to be fair he did give me £30 of fuel when I bought the car which we hadn't agreed and in the end he paid for additional checks at OPC Newcastle to verify the mileage mix-up.
I'm just telling how it is from my experience with them. The fact about buying from auction does explain the keen pricing and I did end up getting a good car from them (which I still have), however a few things could have been better like agreeing to touch up a few areas of paintwork (not respraying panels I might add) but then failing to do so, similarly agreeing to provide a touch up pen which they never did plus saying they had skimmed the brakes as corrosion was identified in the initial OPC check and MOT however I later found out they clearly hadn't when I saw the inside faces, plus it failed the first MOT under my ownership owing to a substandard tyre repair which wasn't picked up by the MOT station Motorhouse use (or by OPC Leeds during the 111 point check) however it was like that when I purchased the car.
One of the reasons I used them in the first place was because they have been trading for quite a long time and Saj did tell me they have a lot of repeat customers and when I initially thought my car had been clocked he did sound concerned about reputational damage.
