Trying to keep this brief.. I bought a car from a popular car trading website privately, did a HPI check which was clear and now have the car. I have a receipt from the guy I bought it from saying I transferred him the money, I have all the service history and my part of the v5. I am very happy with the car.

Last week I noticed it was still for sale but the advert had been altered so the price was £500 higher. So I messaged him from a different phone to the one I used to originally talk to him with. He said the car was sold but he would let me know if others came up(private sale, not a dealer?), so then I asked why the advert was still up and got a reply saying that a deposit had been taken but the car hadn't been sold yet. But it had, because I had already bought it.

So I didn't think much of it, other than that he was trying to be a bit of a car dealer and seeing if he got interest at different prices or something.

Checked again today, price has dropped back down, the pictures from the outside of the car are the same (my car) but the interior ones are from a different car. Now I am worrying a bit about what could be going on? Anyone have any ideas or am I worrying for no reason?

Sounds like he has other cars for sale, and he's trying to get his money's worth out of the advert by keeping it up as long as possible. Was it a private sale, or a home trader? My guess is probably a home dealer posing as a private seller.

Maybe the advert has been paid for and is going to run for longer, so he leaves it up just to try and get phone calls.

Probably! But then again maybe not!

Dealer is a cheapskate trying to save cost's by selling a different car using the same advert or alternatively he has a second key and will steal the car back and sell it to someone else.

Safest thing to do would be to buy the second car as well and see if its the one you already have when you go to collect wink

I think he was a home trader.

Don't say that! The one downfall with the car and main bargaining point I had with him was that there was only 1 key for the car. I was talking to my friend and I came up with that exact scenario!
