I've just been emailed this story by a mate.

Who is worse, the bus driver for entering a crossing he couldn't clear, or the train driver for continuing to move forward when the bus was still on the crossing?

Box junctions don't apply to buses, or at least they don't seem to in London

One would hope that the presence of a great big train, may have helped the bus driver's decision though.

Watching that train go past was like the first 5 minutes of Star Wars watching the ship fly by the screen.

I would hope that the bus driver is no longer a bus driver after this incident. It's simple, if you cant see a way off the yellow boxed area etc... don't drive onto it. I think the train driver was trying to stop. Even at low speeds these kinds of trains build up momentum quite quickly add into the mix the fact that the only thing stopping them is metal on metal.

I imagine the train was hard on the brakes. They don't stop like cars do.

You actually have to ask that question? It takes a fkton of effort to stop and start a massive great freight train, the driver was probably incredulous that the stupid driving the bus was not getting out of his way. He obviously knows what he's doing very well indeed because he efficiently stopped at the last possible instant.

The bus drivers lack of action is totally indefensible, ask yourself what you would have done in your car if you'd fked up at the junction and if the answer is "sit there like a and force the train to stop" then hand in your license.

TBH all fits in with my experience of the sort of tossers that drive busses frown fk me I hate busses and the people who drive them so much that just seeing that video of a bus has filled me with rage. I think I need a lie down.

I can't believe the passengers stayed onboard while a train approached. I'd have been out of there!

It's one thing entering the yellow box. Quite another while the crossing lights are going. I don't think he will be driving buses much longer.

Bus driver should be dismissed immediately. I worked for a railroad and was amazing at the utter stupidity of people who do not understand that the train always wins.

Common mistakes:

-Crossing after the train had passed, lights still flashing, hit by a train in the other direction.

-wildly underestimating approaching train speed.

-in snowy weather , a train coming towards you is virtually silent

-staying with stalled vehicle

I wonder how many cars car fit on that train, how many carriages were there?

Presumably it was dropping off cars at the docks for export...nice to see them going the other way

Looks like there will be a recruitment for another bus driver, 100% sacked and so he should be, idiot.

They are typically 15 to 20 long, nearly always full of JLR stuff (mostly range rovers, evoques, and the occasional landy).

I lived in Southampton for years and I never knew they actually ran trains down there. The crossing's obvious but I figured it was there for some ultra-rare cruise ship bks.

It gets used up to 5 times a day, and from 3 to 7 days a week.

I thought it was only used once in a blue moon as well, if it's used that often I'm surprised they don't stick a set of barriers up. The route down to Fawley is used less than that and has barriers along it's whole length (although was busier in the past).

I've lived in Southampton and never seen a train go through there. Not that I'm condoning the bus driver, he/she is clearly a fking cretin!
