Alfa Romeo Sprint Speciale: Time For Tea?

Built for the Carrera Panamericana from less than a shell, this old Alfa has quite a story behind it

This Petrolicious production is not one for the purist. The Alfa you see here is probably about as far from matching numbers as it's possible to be. But then given it started as a roof of a Sprint Speciale (see 3:33), you can hardly blame owner Conrad Stevenson for pursuing his own path with the project.

That project was to compete in the Carrera Panamericana. Having shared a car he was determined to compete with his own vehicle and the Alfa became that car. It's purpose built to cope with the harsh demands of the 2,200 mile road rally and looks wonderful liveried up doing so.

But more than the Sprint Speciale, it's worth watching this vid to peer around Conrad's workshop. A man who restores classic Alfas for a living, it's crammed with old parts, shells and gorgeous cars. Lovely.

See the video here.

Such a refreshing outlook on classic cars. He describes his perspective / approach very well. 10/10.

A refreshing reminder of what cars are all about, and the subject is an equally refreshing antidote to the sea of identikit Euro-yawn-boxes which clog our roads with mediocrity and A2B obliviousness.

Cool guy, cool car.

Well edited video, good balance or music and engine song. It always annoys me when the sound of the engine is obliterated - possibly because it wasn't recorded in the first place - by overpowering and often ccensoredp music.

Great stuff. How much more interesting and down to earth was that, rather than eg should the latest Aston have a paddle shift or not.

If anyone asks me why I do my job it's this. May be hard work and doesn't pay enough for me to own anything very fancy but THAT noise and the way they drive...

That's it.

All the stuff about Alfas and petrolheads*, it's all right there.

  • No, not the modern front wheel drive ones with diesel engines. The old ones with eight valve twincams, twin sidedraughts and big heavy jumpy around live axles.
Mwahaaa.

In my opinion the best Petrolicious video yet. Several times I paused the film just to look at the lines of the car. Absolutely stunning, I honestly can't think of any car I would rather own.

Stunning sounding car, though I must say it looks a tiny bit too "melted" for me. I wholly concur with his ethos though!
