I wasn't keeping an eye on my speed when travelling to Hertfordshire on the M25 last night. At around 10:25pm, I was travelling clockwise in lane 3 when I saw bright flashes in my door mirror as I approached Junction 20. I was passing over white dashes at that moment. The flashes appeared to come from a speed camera mounted behind the gantry. No temporary speed limits were in force at the time.

Will update if I receive a speeding ticket in the post (or not the case will hopefully be).

Must watch my speed on the motorway next time.

If you were speeding then yes. I'd recommend being more attentive.

To warn other drivers. People likely to find this thread in a search will be interested in knowing where speed cameras are active on the M25, whether someone has got in trouble, what speed they were recorded as going and what the outcome was.

Some people won't be interested at all and others may have all kinds of discussions around the speeding subject as per online etiquette.

You must have been going over, or very close to 3 digits to be flashed with no variable limit in place.

I hope we're all smart enough to know the results of that sort of speed already.

Yes, those new cameras on M25 seem to be flashing a lot these days. Proceed with caution.

Well actually, that's one of the reasons I've made this post. I was going no where near 3 digits when it happened, which means they're treating motorway driving as strictly as driving anywhere else.

BTW, I know what your saying about 3 digit speeds. The passenger cell of a car tends to fail during a 50mph collision. At 100+ rather extraordinary things can happen.

Try not to worry. I was flashed months ago on the M25 and nothing came of it. My taxi drive took me around part of the M25 today at 90mph. He does it daily and has never had a ticket in four years on the M25 smile

Thanks for the reassurance. I've been doing long journeys across the country every week for the past few months and have obviously gotten a bit complacent about my speed on the motorway.

You'll be fine. I've been flashed by those gantry cameras many a time, both on the M25 and the M1. In fact I once nipped through one at over 140 and never heard a peep from plod.

Ignore the harbingers of doom who swear that these cameras are rigged to flash at 93+ or whatever. They may well be (although, oddly I've been through many at more that haven't flashed), but they're definitely not 'live'.

Of course, obviously I don't condone speeding in any way, shape or form.

The new cameras are installed alongside the gantries now instead of on top as they previously were.
Also they are active around most of the m25 now.new cameras have been installed around the a10 section aswell as all the managed motorway sections Within the last few weeks. They havnt been active for years but now are.
I work with connect plus who are involved with the traffic management side of things for the instillation.

Driving along the M25 Friday evening I noticed the traffic going the otherdirection were on a 50mph restriction during rush hour. Every car that went through was flashed. I't was like being surrounded by the paparazzi with all the flashes going off.

Interesting.

To be fair the flashing did work for me, even though no ticket arrived. I got paranoid so started using cruise control set to 75-77 range.

Just did another long motorway trip tonight and stuck to the limit the whole way.
