I don't want to improve it, I want them to get rid of it.

We all want them to get rid of it! But improving it is the second best option

More fair, less unfair? I'd leave the current method alone.

Road Fund Licences is all wrong anyway. It just needs a complete rethink.

How does the Co2 emissions bar any resemblement on how much tax you have to pay?

Someone using a car all day every day in there £20 tax a year should have to pay a lot more tax than someone who has £500 tax bill for getting their sports car out every few weekends.

Was going to sign it as agree with the suggestion but then thought what's the point. Country is run by the corrupt for the corrupt. Why bother.

They do pay more, it's called fuel duty and VAT

If everyone thought like that then things would never get changed. Surely doing something that takes a minute and might make a difference (no matter how slight the chance) is better than doing nothing?

I like the fact that I don't have to display a tax disc and rarely sell a car, so it really isn't worth getting worked up about IMO

Don't get me started on older cars. They can't be bothered to load everything into the system so if you run an older car. Pre 2001 that's a flat rate regardless of CO2. frown

Because it's not a road fund license and never has been, at least not for 80 years
it's an environmental tax, historically it was a tax on car ownership, when owning your own car was an expensive luxury, and something of a nuisance to others.

AIUI, there's no difference now to how it was before. You only got a refund on full, not partial months. The new tax-diskless-system-introduction is a bit of a red herring here. The only real difference is that you get the refund, if there is one, when you sell the car. How many folk would have left the tax on anyway so, if anything, might end up a little bit better off when the refund comes through.

I've signed it, I don't really mind the new system but this would be better.

Rather it was scrapped and stuck on fuel price instead.

I assume this petition is in fact about Vehicle Excise Duty?

Scoff if you may, but there is a very, very obvious official response to a petition about something that doesn't exist, especially when you try to clarify things by explaining that you actually mean this other thing that no longer exists. A response that will probably leave the petitioners feeling like they've wasted their time...

Agree. Save a fortune in admin, no scroaty offenders not paying, tax paid directly related to actual amount of emissions caused.

But that's too simple isn't it.

+ Its still my view having one 6L V8 @ £500, one with "no emissions rating" @ £230 and one at £20pa. Pay for what you use.

I'm quite sure you'd be understood calling it by any one of a number of names.

In fact the Government site doesn't appear to contain any reference to calling it VED. I'm all for consistency and pedantry but I think your concern may be misplaced.

Our fuel costs would initially be circa £1.43 per litre then.
