Think I'd agree with the first couple of categories - I'd run out of will to read the bigger lists.

I was slightly insulted to read a dealer MOT check sheet once where they'd noted my 100 mile old Toyo R888's as "budget".

I just hope that Rotalla, with 23% wet grip, have nothing to do with Rotala, who run a lot of the buses round our way :O

Looks about right although I'd have thought Metzeler bike tyres would be 'premium.'

I'm not sure about Yokohama. They make some exceptionally good specialist tyres but I know nothing about their more mainstream offerings.

I think I'd put Matador in the midrange these days too.

I always thought LingLong was just some derogatory term for any Chinese ditchfinders until I saw a car pull up next to me at an MOT station sporting a set!

Kleber aren't "economy" (and they're not "cheap" price-wise, so I don't know where that comes from); I'd put them in the second bracket, I'd say they're a bit like Uniroyals or Vredesteins.

I'd say 50% of what you've got in your midrange list is "economy" eg Marangoni (I'm doing this on my phone so not editing a big list).

What's the difference between 'economy' and 'budget'?

I don't think I'd fancy Hifly...

I spose its subjective to what purpose they are being put to. Avon to a caterham owner would be a premium brand for example.

With economy tyres you die once. With budgets, you die twice!

nice one .. but I'm in the process of choosing/buying some tyres for both my car and my other half's car, and hope to plan it better this time ...

Oh, and it wasn't me who made the list! See the url at the end ..

Yes I thought the same .. as I read down the list on the web page I'd assumed economy would be the bottom group ... confused shocking that there are worse ones. And that my other half's car came with some of them on it.

Agreed, Racetecs are (or certainly were) the staple of race series (where road legal tyres were mandated) and trackdayers for years.

hmm

op you really need another category titled utter ******* ditch finder.

but overall difficult to list brands, personally highly rate my rainsport 3s and would put them up against most tyres on a normal day to day road car whereas michelin energies i wouldn't put near a car of mine.

I got some Landsails for my Volvo and have been pleasantly surprised.

They weren't VERY cheap and I didn't have very high hopes but, for a fairly ordinary car that does very few miles now, they seem to grip the road pretty well, have worn well, and aren't too noisy so I'd call them economy rather than budget.
