Hi

Sold my private plate on Ebay, now I've got no idea what to do.

It's on a retention document, the V778. I am the Grantee and the assignment fee has been paid.

Do I just send the document to the buyer, having not filled anything in?

Thanks

Once the buyer has sent it to DVLA with the £25 to make them the nominee, it will still come back to you I think (no nominee address on retention doc??).

Just make sure you still have their address to send on.

Likewise if they don't renew the retention the renewal reminder will come to you.

After the 'nominee' has been added, don't forget to sign it before you post it to the buyer, as andy-xr says. They'll have 12 months to assign it to a car, or they'll be chasing you to extend it again!

The DVLA have recently changed the V317 form to avoid this daft procedure (they know people buy & sell them but insist on only the registered keeper being the 'owner' of the number). But it only applies if the reg is still on the car. You can actually apply to have the reg number transferred to another person as the 'grantee' straight away and the retention document is sent to them:
