Porsche 911 GTS confirmed

After rolling out hybrids at Paris Porsche now confirms a GTS version of the 991

We know the deal with Porsche GTS models now. Cherry pick the most popular options on the chosen model, add a dash of extra power and some styling pizzazz then, voila, another really very good Porsche. Plus another excuse to talk about the 904, obviously.

You best like big butts for the cabrio

Now we have the 991 Carrera GTS, replacing the revered 997 GTS and slotting into the Porsche range alongside its Cayman, Boxster, Panamera and Cayenne equivalents. As before, there are coupe, cabrio, rear- and four-wheel drive GTS 911s available.

Based on the Carrera S, the 911 GTS makes another 30hp (now 430, presumably through the Powerkit) and gets a standard sports exhaust too. The Sport Chrono pack with dynamic engine mounts is also standard, as is Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). The seven-speed manual is standard with PDK an option that will no doubt prove popular.

All GTS models use the wider Carrera 4 body with 20-inch centre-lock wheels. Other tweaks to distinguish the GTS include smoked headlights at the front with 'special trim elements' at the front. You haven't noticed the 'GTS black trim strips' and black finished exhausts? Now you know.

The 911 Carrera GTS goes on sale today with the first customer cars arriving in November. Prices start at £91,098 for the Carrera GTS coupe, which seems rather a lot given a Carrera S coupe is £83,545. But then a Powerkit is £9,388 (!) on a 911 so the GTS begins to look better value (by Porsche standards at least) when you remember stuff like the sports exhaust and Sports Chrono are optional usually too. A GTS C4 coupe is £95,862, the GTS C2 cabriolet £99,602 and the C4 cabriolet £104,385.

One caveat; it must have the stearing tuned as per the GT3!

Looks great, a lot of money though. Evo's piece on the Boxter in Majorca made me really open my eyes to the GTS products, they seem the most rounded in the lineup. For me the sweet sport would be the Cayman GTS although strangely the Boxter GTS seems like a great way to hear the exhaust.

Either one is on the next car list for sure. The sweet spot will be a two year old model having scrubbed off VAT and a whack of depreciation

Makes the GT3 look like great value at £100,540. (assuming they're not still instantaneously combusting)

Wow, the red 2wd in the article looks fantastic from that angle, and in that red. Lovely. Just smooth, clean and elegant. I despise the badging though, completely ruins the back!

I agree with the above that just GTS on the back would look a bit less fussy.

Think I would spec without the Porsche and the 911 badges.

And makes a Cayman S an absolute steal at £50k...

Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS could they make the model designation longer?

Not sure why they feel the need to highlight it's a Porsche 911, why not just:

Carrera GTS

or

Carrera 4 GTS

Standard 991 Carrera S is one of the dullest cars I've had the misfortune to drive. Quick, grippy, zero occasion. And it was one with all the above tech stuffed in (active everything I guess). Engine was so unpleasant - sounded crap, and sounded painful and artificial with the sports exhaust button pressed.

So nah, doubt this can be anything other than boring. I'm a big 911 fan, but the thrill was absolutely missing from the 991.

Don't get me started on that cabin. Might as well have been a golf...

The 997 GTS was the best "road" 911 I've driven.

I hope this pushes the prices of those down into my bracket!

Porches need to stop with the ridiculously verbose badging, it looks idiotic, a bit anal and spoils the look of the car, its like that occasional car you see, driven by a strange looking, bobble hat wearing bloke, lets say a BMW that is a "TURBO - Hartge - Alpina - MPower - Sport - S Line quatro".

Surely there's a badge delete option, so it's a matter of owners choice?

V nice, but a shame they didn't use the even wider turbo body. Also seems like rather a lot in terms of badging...

There is also always a hairdryer and a thin piece of plastic, its the fact that Porsche feel the need to put "Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS" on there that amuses me, just seems more like the sales inventory description than what needs to go on the back of the actual car.
