Mercedes-AMG C63 pricing confirmed

Saloon nips in under £60K, up to £75,000 for the Edition 1 wagon

So the Mercedes-AMG C63 costs more than an M3. That's what everyone wanted to know, after all. The non-S, 476hp C63 saloon costs £59,795 and a DCT M3 costs £58,675. Not really enough to make a difference but in the game of German sports saloon Top Trumps it's a point for the BMW.

The premium for the C63 estate is relatively modest at £1,200 which puts the standard wagon at £60,995. Its most obvious rival, the Audi RS4, lists at £56,545. The jump from 476hp C63 to 510hp C63 S is £6,750, putting the saloon at £66,545 and the estate at £67,545. Instinct suggests the S will be the C63 to have but we'll be sure to establish a definitive verdict after a drive. Dan is speccing a long-term wagon as we speak. Probably.

Wagon? Yes please. Stickers? Erm...

Extras confirmed so far include a Burmester stereo upgrade, an AMG sports exhaust and a ceramic composite brake system.

And if that doesn't make for a special enough C63, Mercedes is also offering an Edition 1 version for the first time. It's based on the S but adds 19-inch forged wheels with 'a discreet red band' and a Night Package where all the aluminium trim is painted black. Stealthy. Apart from the AMG graphic that runs along the side of the car and the red in the grille. And the red mirror inserts.

The Edition 1 receives more red trinkets inside, from coloured carbon trim to door panel stitching. Extras fitted as standard include LED lights and a panoramic sunroof. The AMG C63 S Edition 1 is probably best described as an acquired taste. It costs £6,955 over the equivalent S, putting the saloon at £73,500 and the estate at £74,700.

The AMG C63 will arrive in Britain next spring. Mercedes will be politely nagged over the coming weeks for a PH drive in one just as soon as possible.

Sat in the C63 at Paris last week and was shocked at how fussy the interior had become. There's probably way too much going on in a Merc these days (not to mention the god-awful standard infotainment display looking like a tablet stuck to the dash instead of being nicely integrated - BMW, you're guilty too).

As for the seats, well the lumbar was rock solid and it didn't feel like a particularly comfortable place to sit.

Will look forward to PH's assessment overall. However, I'm sure it'll drive brilliantly and will go like stink.

Exterior - thumbs up.
Interior - thumbs down.

Edition 1 AMG's always look like a rip off to me, just Mercedes cashing in (as you would expect them to)

The A45 is another example of this. Also meant rather garish looks with red inserts and over sized wheels.

I can't see £1100 or so making much difference to buyers at this price point. Im an M3 fan, but the C63 could have its measure this time around....Going to be a hell of a showdown!

Love AMGs, really disappointed in the 1990's Maxpower approach of the guys to this newest beast. The flashes of red, the fussy interior, the awful "S" badge. Looks like a lot of plastic and marketing w*nk has gone into this rather than the old spirit of AMG.

I'd love one, but it would be the old version for me!

ETA the wheels don't suit it at all either :-(

BMW are not shy at bringing out new, and some would say pointless, models (eg - their GTs or even the X6) yet they can't bring out a touring M3/M5 - strange.

I thought the same until I sat in the back of a 5 series GT with the two individual chairs. Supremely comfy, felt like being in a Flying Spur.
But I agree that the chauffer-driven limousine market is probably a bit too niche to be worth launching a dedicated model for it

My numbers would have to come up but an Estate S would be my perfect car.

Awesome.

They can keep the Edition 1 though.

Looks like the wagon has grown some rear arches compared to the official press release images of the C63.

I agree about the wheels, but your answer is a typical retard PH clown. Grow the fk up. Do you think everyone wants to be as boring as you, buy the car in silver and still think your driving a Q car but yet there are obvious differences to the standard C class, larger exhaust, heavy rolling of engine etc.
Mercedes, BMW, Audi cooking models are not just sold in the UK. You people need to travel, maybe you may not think it looks good in the UK, but it sure does in other countries around the world and they are the ones that want these styling additions...and some in the UK. Especially the first buyer, which counts more than anything. Not people like yourself constantly buying the car second hand.

I was lucky enough to have a new C43 AMG in the late 90's " Company Car " I loved the noise the looks and the comfort of it and I didn't care about fuel costs as I had a company fuel card BUT as a driver's tool, it was no match for a E36 or E46 M3 of the time, in a straight line, 14.4sec for the Merc to 100mph, 12.5 for the E46 M3, but especially in the twisty stuff, The Merc always felt like it was on stilts / tip toes with the big AMG alloys and pencil thin tyre's fitted" they looked cool",
I swapped with a friends E46 M3 for a few hours one Saturday afternoon and his car felt like the car wrapped around you and gave you confidence to push on, it had great body and damper control and was dead easy to catch when the back had a wobble, past 7/10ths the Merc would be wallowing and struggling to put the power down with that awful slush box and terrible traction control, it had poor body control nearer the limit and the rear broke away with far to much of a snap when pushing on and was difficult to control with the auto, many a time I've faced oncoming traffic in the wet coming off a roundabout in the Merc.
I do like the AMG products but for people to keep comparing them is wrong, as the 2 cars are built to different philosophy's, the BMW is a scalpel for drivers and the Merc a sledgehammer for people to go fast but mostly on the autobahn,
Today's AMG C classes are faster by a lot than the M cars but they are still poles apart if your looking for a precision drivers tool, I've been lucky enough to have a go in C63 and its wow fast and sounds like a dragster and that engine wow! but after 15 years there's still a bit of the C43 in there, it still inst a match for the M cars on the handling front, the road tests will show this when they happen!, the M car will still come out as the weapon of choice for the driver in us, not the hooligan.
Not all but most AMG products are for 7/10ths driving, where as the M cars are for driving at maximum attack, The v8 m3 bests the C63 by about 3 sec a lap at Paul Ricard circuit, but in the end these are just numbers and my opinion.

Typical PH reply - needlessly aggressive.

I also think the old AMG spirit is worth protecting.
Go bling in certain markets (China), allow the terminally naff to go nuts with nasty go-faster styling options by all means, but keep the core product pure and true to its original values.

The question is do you personally think the new Maxpower direction is an improvement?
Forget maufacturer requirements for other markets and marketing pressures for a minute - what do you think?
Are stickers, wings and bling a good thing?

It's time they drops the "63" or any number for the AMG models.

Just call them "C AMG" and "C AMG-S".

Or likewise, "S AMG" and "S AMG-S" instead of S63 and S65.

No too sure until a few reviews, could go the same way as the B7 RS4 now seen as the best RS in the 4 group, the new one being auto and avant and too many settings etc.

Will reserve judgement though this is only MY opinion before the aggressive mob set on me

You’ll be fine. This isn’t an Apple forum.
