I think he may have been mentioned on here before but this is a very interesting piece.

This looks like a really good read, I'm going to save it for when I get home. Thanks for sharing... Reminds me a bit of this short video by motorcycle adventure legend Austin Vince, also worth a watch

Such an amazing trip. Guy will have seen and experienced so much.

Good that Mercedes are going to put the car in their museum and helped get access to some places.

Only been travelling 11 years...!!!

Website looks nice, but isn't very user friendly. Makes for compelling reading!

A great reminder that life is not all Mon-Fri 9-5 for everyone. 450,000 euros cost is beyond the possible for most people, although doing something like this with a lottery win seems the best way to enjoy life.

Superb - very old skool and his choice of companion looks (from photographic evidence) sound.

Those GD Mercs - some car. Wonder where they got the idea from?

Fantastic... biggrin

Also I must say, a cracking bit of website design by the BBC.

That's a great story - I wish I had the courage (and funds) to do something similar. I can't be the only one who has dreamed of loading up an old Landie or similar and heading off for distant lands. Sad, though, that a lot of those areas would probably be no-go now - just shows how the world has changed.

Whereas I closed the browser tab after the first "page". I really don't like the look & feel of it.

I must admit to being a sentimental old sod and had a bit of dust in my eye at one point. Now that I've fully read this - most excellent!!
