The car I would currently aspire to is the 996 turbo. It ticks pretty much all the boxes in what I'd need from a car...seats two with luggage space, performance, everyday useability and doesn't depreciate too much!

Unfortunately it's out of reach for me financially, so I'm trying to establish a more cost effective alternative.

Initial thoughts are...

B7 RS4
S2 Exige - very limited luggage space
Impreza Spec C Ltd
Evo 8 MR

Any thoughts?

Cheers

A 996 turbo is out of reach but an Exige is in budget?

Normal 911 ticks ALL the boxes (apart from the turbo of course).

This is too easy. Get yourself an MR2 turbo.

Audi TTS, German, 2+2, four wheel drive, turbo engine. Remap for better performance

TTS? Reasonable compromise on an "ordinary car" level, but those machines listed all have something about them, they way they drive. Remap doesn't cure the lack of feel (I drive an Audi, so I know).

The OP wants as near as a 996TT as he can get. TTS is going the other way toward hatchbacks and shopping vehicles.

Or a B7 RS4?

Good examples of the Audi or Lotus would be mid twenties... as is a 996 turbo.

300zx?

Six cylinders, two turbos, four seats, quick, rare, big enough boot (can fit a bike in the back), done depreciating...

....or OP could save a bit longer and get the car he dreams of instead of a compromise.

It was just a suggestion, OP asking for everyday useability, performance and seating for 2. I'd say the TTS fits that more than an Exige, I've had one and it's not useable everyday unless you are extremely dedicated, and even then it will be frustrating at times.

Aye, went to check where they sit and you're right.
