I spotted a cheap and nasty blandbox - a Proton Ecologic and see from the website that it is equipped to run on LPG when you buy new.

I wonder why more makers don't do that? Surely there's appeal in your models running on a fuel that can be as low as 56p per litre, doesn't rattle like a diesel or have DPF issues and if it was manufactured in, the LPG tank could be custom fit into a spare gap rather than taking up boot space.

Not enough demand and the additional costs of training dealers to look after and diagnose them.

Ford, Volvo and Vauxhall all tried it and in the face of the extra costs of buying an LPG car and rapidly improving diesel tech the punters chose diesel engines instead of LPG.

Diesel does almost exactly the same job with better availability of fuel, proven reliability and no need for a separate fuel tank.
