Hi guys,

Not been on the forums for a while, but seen some what I believe to be dangerous driving in a supermarket car park.

The car was pulling wheel spins and driving quite fast. I was appalled with the manner in which he was driving with people around. If I was report him to the police would anything come about it? Being on a car park?

Private property = no-one gives a toss.

Oh and you may want to add a title smile

Sorry about there being no title. Did put one in but don't know what's happened. Mods if you could please put one in that'd be great.

I thought it being a place where public had access to would mean it is classed as dangerous driving.

Just rang the supermarket to complain, they've said they'd look into it. Is it worth reporting to the police?

Why is everyone so quick to crisis everyone else these days.

Is driving "quite" fast really that much of a problem for you.

Have you tried mumsnet?

Definitely report it. Disgusting behaviour IMO.

Might be worth seeing if you can locate a safety supplies company with a view to purchasing a hi-viz vest, speed/radar gun thingy, sound level meter thing and appropriate facial expression.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Stupid response. What if he injured a child? I bet your stance would change then! My word, some people.

This.

Why are you getting upset about it? Why go out of your way to report it? Did someone die?

As a supermarket car park is publicly accessable this couldn't be further from the truth.

If you report it, time and date the Police may check the CCTV and prosecute. If they can be arsed that is...

Report it and let us know what comes of it!

Idiotic reply..
A supermarket car park is most likely full of people not paying proper attention and children (and no that's not an excuse to run them over)!
A car park open to the public has the same laws as the road. Report it before some gets hurt...

If you're concerned enough to come on here then report it.

What were the circumstances? Half 6 in the evening very busy? Or half 6 in the morning, basically empty?

If he was putting people in danger then it's an issue that needs dealing with.

I once reported a colleague who worked at my store who nearly ran two oap's over on the zebra crossing in the car park. He was pissed off for being expected to work his regular shift (football was on) and wheel span off up the road in a rage when he finally finished work! The guy was a total bellend with numerous traffic offences btw.
Police did nothing. Too busy apparently.

As someone who sometimes goes down the supermarket in winter for a bit of fun I am not sure I should be commenting but the other day I was waiting to pick up my very ugly child after she was dropped of from the bus only to see someone on a scooter rather than drive into car park the right way decide to actually take a right turn on the zebra crossing, drive across the crossing, go across a pavement path section and then go and park up. Whilst people were on it.

here it is

Now is that just being cheeky or actually quite dangerous. I couldn't make my mind up, a few years back probably thought it was a bit cheeky, now being middle aged probably think its an accident waiting to happen....

We had a "boy racer" meeting at our store a couple of weeks ago. Most unusual for Cornwall! About 150 cars, a few of them doing burnouts and slides. This was before dark on a Saturday evening.
It reached the point where staff and customers were scared to leave the safety of store and venture into the carpark.
Duty manager called 101, and they weren't interested. He called 999, and eventually a single copper turned up and tried to move them on.

Despite it all being on CCTV, police wouldn't take it any further, even though some of the culprits were "known". Apparently we need to have big yellow signs up warning people that we reserve the right to prosecute anti-social behaviour in the carpark. Signs are now installed, so we will see what excuse they come up with next time for not taking action.

All evidence has been passed to our head office legal team, who are looking into pursuing civil action against the worst offenders for damage to the carpark (road markings and crossings need repainting).

Just had a call back from the control room. They've said they'll review cctv footage and if they see the dangerous driving they will pass it on to the police. Don't see how they'll be able to see a wheel spin through cctv footage.

Not acting responsibly with your car where there is a high density of pedestrians - and potentially young / unaware pedestrians at that - should result in your rights as a driver being affected. It's the most basic common-sense you can apply to driving.

People moan when they get caught speeding on a motorway in the dead of night when there is nobody around - but tw&tting about in a public carpark is 'just a bit of fun'!

Case in point - the incidents in Manchester Trafford Centre recently...

It was around 5 o clock. Was quite a few people about, Hope something happens but doubt it. If the police witnessed it, it would have been a different matter.

To be honest complaints from Joe Public will probably help the company whose land it is with the issue. Where I work (large store on stilts above a car park), it's like The Fast and the Furious every bloody night.

It's taken us bloody ages to get plod to take it seriously but they've now agreed to send a traffic car down and hand out some ASBOs or something in the evenings.

Multiple calls from concerned residents have helped.
