Tempting but they're tightening up on the legislation:-

Even if replaced by an empty box/ looks ok visually difference will be detectable on a smoke test during the mot. What your testing garage then does depends on them currently but for how long? Insurance implications also potentially a real problem

Hi,

yea I've had a look at all of this, however everything only mentions MOT fail haven't heard insurance fail? I will inform insurance I've had remap but that's about it..

Yea that's true, but I can't justify paying out to top up fluid which could require a full new dpf unit.costing around £800.

I think I'm going to get it done, I just need to find a quality garage who can hide the gutting and who personalise the remaps.

I literally have no idea how it could possibly ever in any way whatsoever affect your insurance.

Scenario:
-OP crashes
-Insurance company "I think the first thing we should do here is check if he's gutted his DPF so we can see if we can get out of paying out on his claim."

I can't recommend anywhere but lots of garages will gut the dpf pipe, so it looks like it still functions. I also can't think of any independent garages that will fail it on MOT for not having a functional dpf. No one cares.

So warning someone that a plan they are making is illegal and invalidates their insurance is smart arsed is it? Being smart arsed would be suggesting you learned the difference between advice and advise tbh!

They will tighten up on the MOT test with respect smoke tests on dpf cars that have been drilled, who knows when. A DPF-removed car will need to be remapped so the dpf light isn't on. Insurance companies have been known not to payout on cars with non-disclosed mods I believe or maybe I dreamed that too? OP says he will tell them about remap but not dpf. Agree doubt they'll check but technically still an undeclared mod.

Did a fair bit of research about DPFs and removal as the next car I buy will unfortunately need to have one. Wouldn't buy a replacement one from a dealer though:

or similar.

Honest John has a a fair amount of info on them

Its not fact its surmising.

Currently a car wont fail MOT if the DPF box is there and there is no light on on the dash.

Realistically - its an 04 car with probably a couple of years left in it, so theres little going to change in that cars lifetime.

If the fit does hit the shan, stick a non OEM DPF back in or get one from a scrapper.

Whilst you may cite insurance being invalidated as its a "mod", are the insurance company really going to forensically examine an 04 Peugeot thats been in a bump? Really?
