Never been in a position where I have wanted to keep a car past three years but the incredible machine that is the 1.4 litre 65bhp Seat Ibiza we have has made it across the line ...

Can I assume the MOT immediately runs out the day the car hits three years old?

No, it currently doesn't have an "MOT".

However, its first "MOT" will be due the minute it becomes three years old. Best get it booked in a week or two before.

I believe the "early MoT" rule applies for its first one too, i.e. show them the reg doc and they will run the MoT slightly longer than 12 months, up to 13 months, so it expires on the car's fourth birthday.

Always used to be the case anyway. But given the penny pinching on road tax overlap going on from this month .. perhaps they've changed the MoT rules as well. mad

As above, get the car tested early in the last month and the MOT will last 13 months.

Saves any potential issues if the car fails for something and you can't get it fixed on the spot.
