A female friend is looking to sell her 320D Touring and wants the same again BUT ideally raised up and 4WD as she lives in the countryside.

To complicate matters she is a badge snob and won't consider Ford, Skoda, Subaru etc budget £8k - 15k, below 70k miles.

I could only think of:

Audi Allroad
Q5
CX-7 (probably fails badge criteria)
XC60
VW Tiguan

Any other options ?

If she wants the same again but raised and awd, then the x1 x drive is the obvious choice.

^ apart from it being one of the ugliest cars BMW ever made.

I would say the xc60, very smart machines both inside and out

Forester. Not only are they not needily blingtastic they also actually work in the conditions you'd want them to.

She's insane if she doesn't want the best tool for the job.

I forgot to add:

Forester (I own one) "my heart would sink walking back to that"
Freelander 2 "It looks horrible"
X3 - she went to the BMW showroom and "Didn't like anything there" so I presume that eliminates the X1 (I didn't even know that existed)

XC70 would fit the bill

Good luck finding a petrol though, of the 48 on the trader right now meeting the OP's budget and mileage restrictions only one is petrol!!

The Diesel engine suits the car very well, especially in automatic guise...

If she is such a snob, then an A6 allroad would probably not pass her muster due to having (shock) plastic bumpers.

What about a Range Rover Sport? That's kind of still an estate car

slightly left field but what about a Saab 9-3X?

Not many about and loads cheaper than an Allroad of similar vintage.

Just spotted the budget and she cannot afford one anyway. Beggars cannot be choosers.

The Allroads are lovely cars, but I wouldn't vouch on one working for very long. Whereas the Subaru would go forever.

Badge snobbery will bite her in the backside with a budget like that & that attitude

All of the "Premium" pseudo 4x4's are proper lemons, Allroad's are horrendous for going wrong, XC70's centre diff units, the X1/X3's are OK apart from the usual BMW engine foibles. A Lexus RX300 & variants would be the most sensible option in terms of not going wrong.

A Subaru would be the best thing for the job imho & they are the choice of the properly wealthy

I'd stay well away from helping her tbh, that way when the high mileage, complex, very expensive 8 years ago car kicks her in the it can't come back to haunt you. Or tell her to get an Audi Allroad and look forward to many laughs.
