Autocar just drove the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Here are some of the choicest quotes from the article:
"The Hellcat can guzzle the full volume of its 15.4-gallon fuel tank in only 13 minutes. Its supercharger ingests oxygen through a huge 92mm throttle body and the output of a base Ford Fiesta – 79bhp – is needed to spin that twin-screw blower... No CO2 emissions are stated for the beastly V8 and we don’t think Chrysler really cares."

Was thinking of adding it to the thread on the one car you must own, but I guess there will always be something else more mental a year or two down the line...

I wonder if the full tank fuel consumption in 13 minutes is achieved at top speed.

If so, with a top speed of 199mph, in 13 minutes you would have covered 43 miles - good luck finding somewhere outside of a salt flat where you can do 199mph solid for 43 miles laugh

Your calcs look right to me (& you've avoided the old banana skin of the difference between US and imperial gallons!).

Hopefully the pedants are currently on Google Maps trying to work out how many stretches of straight-ish and unrestricted autobahn there remain of at least 40 miles in length.

Do your calculations take into account the fuel used accelerating up to the 199 mph, and/ or have you offset that by the distance the car will travel coasting to a rest once the fuel has run out?

Just wondering smile

Is Autocar right about it having a twin-screw blower?

Every factory v8 I know of uses a roots blower of some variety.

That sounds a familiar figure.

The latest issue of Car has a good article about taking a McLaren 650S to a CanAm racer reunion event at Road America in Wisconsin. I know very little about CanAm so found the potted history about the race series and Bruce McLaren pretty interesting. The cars themselves are utterly mad: 670hp driving 640kg...
Apparently they were eventually killed by, among other factors, a requirement to get fuel consumption up to about 3mpg.
