XYZ 2

Letters then numbers. Always.

I didn't make the rules, just check reg-transfers or similar.

12 XY is much better, but a lot more expensive.

XYZ 2 is similar cost to 2 XYZ. I guess the date of original issue plays a part?

"F 1" - worth a small fortune

"1 F" - worth a decent amount.

"51 MON" - worth a small fortune.

"MON 51" - worth a modest amount.

So it mainly depends on the specific number.

I own R1 xxx on retention but prefer to have on my car 350 xxx

Have I chosen the "better" (= more expensive?) registration, do you think?

Both do the job of a number plate - uniquely identifying your vehicle - equally well.

If you mean which carries greater visual appeal to you (the only reason to swap the plate from the normal one it was given when new), then you're probably best placed to know the answer to that.

Touché.

To me they do have a visual appeal. More so than the current 7 digit plate that is on the Baarge.

However as the 'value' is dependant on a consensus it is interesting to hear others opinions.

Take 3 XPN vs HXU 3. Letters are an arbitrary example. Cost is the same.
