Hi guys, last month I was looking at insurance quotes from comparethemarket. I was getting quotes between £1,200 - £1,400. Had a look again yesterday and the quotes are now around £2,400. They've literally gone up a grand and the only difference is that I'm now 24 years old but I was 23 last month. Is there a reason for this? What if I had a strict budget and it took me a month car shopping and then the insurance has gone up a grand?!

They can change prices and rules as the wind blows. Biggest bunch of con artists going. Its almost as if the guy on the end of the phone wants a steak meal for lunch vs a sandwhich from Greggs so he bolts on a few extra quid to cover the cost on his commision how costs for add ons can vary. This will never change though and do try not to loose hairs over it.

This year I insured a 2007 Audi S3 and SportKA on multicar for a grand total of £192 more the a single car policy for the SportKA the previous year. How does that work out, I have no idea, but I didnt argue with them and after a triple check, all is correct with the policy details. I am sure they will get me next year wink

Didn't someone else post something up similar a few days ago regarding this as well?

His would go up if he changed the date he bought the car...

I'd recommend ringing up insurance companies to get a more tailored quote. I've just been searching comparethemarket for my E46 next year, prices have dropped around £500 since I checked a couple of months ago, all details consistent, very strange/intriguing/worrying... But yeah I'd just give the companies a call to see precisely what they offer you, as for the sharp changes in prices quoted, I really have no idea confused

What date did you say the insurance should start?

I have heard stories of the quotes rising the closer you get the the start date.

It seems like a bit of a lucky dip then. Could the time of year perhaps change the price? As winter is around the corner...

I tried both. Set it to start straight away and then again a week later. Same high price.

Clear all your cookies then try again, the more you look at the same thing the more it goes up by. This is definitely the case with many things online, and I would assume insurance is the same. Also play around with your options, on the road parking is often cheeper than garaged, and also someone oj here noted that 12000 miles a year was cheeper than 9000. Its all about statistics.

I've had quotes where fully-comp has been cheaper than 3rd party. No changes to the details, same company for both quotes confused

open up a fresh Hotmail account and then go back to the comparison website and start again. as if by magic, the lower prices will magically appear.

it also worth using a couple of different comparison websites as the same companies will often quote different premiums depending on the website.

I had this last week when I bought my bmw 7. I ended up using two comparison websites and two email addresses to get the lowest price active for the moment when I wanted the insurance to kick in.

This recently happened to me.

A quote last week was £1200, a quote last month was £800. 100% Exactly the same details to the T.

Found the email they sent with the lowest quote, and I could click in an amend it to a start date not in the past and it recalculated to £818. I don't understand this as I had two quotes 100% the same, starting on the same day, on the same car, same insurer. One £818, one £1200. Mental.

If you can find an email with the old quote, try that. If not call someone and see if they will match the price of that email quote.
